MAGICAL MOZART

THIS CONCERT WILL NOW BE PERFORMED ON SATURDAY APRIL 5, 2025, IN ELDER HALL. LOOK OUT FOR BOOKING INFORMATION IN FEBRUARY NEXT YEAR.

Mozart’s powerful Great Mass in C minor reveals Mozart at the height of his brilliance. This large-scale work, a missa solemnis, is scored for four soloists – two sopranos, a tenor and a bass – with a double chorus and orchestra. At Mozart’s death it remained unfinished, but it embodies the pomp and solemnity associated with the Salzburg traditions of the time.  It also anticipates the symphonic masses of Joseph Haydn.

Completed a few years earlier, Vesperae solennes de confessore (Solemn Vespers for a Confessor) was composed for liturgical use in the Salzburg Cathedral. The Laudate Dominum is its best-known movement, with a beautifully written solo for soprano accompanied by choir and ensemble.

Veni Sancte Spiritus is a beautiful example of Mozart’s youthful skill, composed when he was just 12!

Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, with instrumental ensemble and four outstanding soloists, is excited to present these magical choral gems.

Due to circumstance beyond our control, the performance of “Magical Mozart” is postponed to Saturday April 5, 2025, in Elder Hall

The performance of Johannes Brahms’ masterpiece, Ein Deutsches Requiem in Elder Hall on Saturday 24 August was a fulfilling and exciting experience.

Soloists, Jeremy Tatchell and Emma Borgas gave powerful and moving performances of Brahms wonderful music. Pianists, Nerissa Pearce and Jamie Cock were by turns nuanced and thundering in their rendition of the score. The choir’s performance was described as “colourful, dramatic and moving”. It was an event that will be long remembered by all who sang or were part of the audience.
