BOOKINGS OPEN FOR “AUTUMN REFLECTIONS” The changing of the seasons inspires a concert designed to have us pause and reflect with music that brings warmth, joy and happiness amid sadness.

The program includes Morley’s lively English madrigal Now is the Month of Maying, the Portuguese Galician folk song Pase el Agua, Josquin des Prez’s O Salutaris Hostia, versions of Ave Verum Corpus from Stopford and Elgar, Percy Grainger’s Irish Tune from County Derry, and a traditional Irish blessing set to music by James E. Moore Jr.

New to the choir’s repertoire are recent songs by American composers Eric Whitacre (Sing Gently) and Z. Randall Stroope (Prelude to Peace).

Choral favourites include Faure’s uplifting Cantique de Jean Racine, Bruckner’s Locus Iste, Berlioz’s The Shepherds’ Farewell, and two versions of Sure on this Shining Night, by Barber and Lauridsen.

The chorus, directed by Aldis Sils, will be accompanied by Nerissa Pearce on piano.

The ticket price includes a complimentary printed program.  Please join us after the concert for refreshments in the adjacent church hall.

Rehearsals recommence this Tuesday January 30 at Cynthia Poulton Hall. Our Librarian, Nick Carroll, has been working hard to prepare the scores for the works that our Music Director, Aldis Sils, has selected for our upcoming concert, “Autumn Reflections” at Kent Town Uniting Church on Sunday May 5. We are looking forward to preparing the combination of familiar and new works by Faure, Barber, Lauridsen, Whitacre and others.

We are just over a week away from our performance “You’ll Never Walk Alone” on Sunday December 3.

You will enjoy excerpts from Porgy ‘n’ Bess, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, Les Miserables and other great music theatre shows.

Guest Soloist: Tenor Noah Byrne is currently undertaking music studies at Marryatville High School. From an early age Noah has had a love of music, making his opera debut at age twelve with the solo part of Frantik in Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen with State Opera SA. He has just returned from The Junior Theatre Festival in Newcastle where he played Evan Goldman in 13 Jr, Davey in Newsies Jr and Hiccup in How to Train your Dragon Jr. Noah is currently the youngest performer in the Festival Statesman Chorus and has recently been selected to participate in the 2024 Class of Cabaret.

Auditions for new members were held over the last 2 weeks and we are delighted to welcome 7 new members to the choir.

Rehearsals for our next concert “You’ll Never Walk Alone”have been a lot of fun. The music of great 20th Century composers like George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein is proving an exciting and challenging contrast to the classical style of Joseph Haydn.

This Sunday afternoon concert will be followed by refreshements giving the audience a chance to mingle with and meet the singers.
